His wife, Zhao Yaliang, and Shane Yi from the Chinese Human Rights Defenders group said the trial was held on Monday at a court in Sanhe City, Hebei province, near Beijing. The proceedings were conducted behind closed doors and ended without a verdict, based on information from Gao’s lawyers.
Zhao said she was not allowed into the courtroom. Yi added that European Union diplomats also attempted to attend but were denied entry. Chinese authorities have not commented publicly on the case.

Yi said Gao is suffering from several health issues, including malnutrition and spinal, knee, and eye conditions that require treatment.
