Beginning in March 2013, Chinese police took into custody dozens of citizens in a crackdown meant to suppress peaceful assembly, association and expression around the country. Wang Hanfei, editor of the Hong Kong-based journal “China Special Report” (中国观察), was sentenced to four years in prison in April 2013, likely for publishing articles that authorities deemed to be politically sensitive.
